The first recorded use of a "drink umbrella" was in 1982 by an Unknown American Hero James (Jim) Dale Birdsong,Jr of Houston Texas. Struggling to keep his Frozen Margarita from melting in the Hot Texas Sun. Birdsong fastened toothpics and cocktail napkins from the historic Hotel Galvez to create what would later become the Drink Umbrella. Birdsong never got rich from his invention but his Margarita never melted before it could be enjoyed! |
